Consultant

This is an entry-level position ideal for someone interested in building science who is looking to learn and develop in-demand skills. You will be working with and supporting the firm’s senior staff.

Responsibilities

  • document conditions at project sites, including existing buildings and in-progress construction
  • attend project meetings with contractors, owners, owners’ representatives and other project stakeholders
  • draft reports documenting field work
  • research building science and building envelope topics
  • review and process submittals
  • perform building envelope testing and investigations
  • prepare construction documents including drawings and specifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, architecture or related field
  • 1-4 years of relevant experience in engineering, architecture, construction or other building envelope-related field
  • ability to drive to job sites throughout New England, climb ladders and work at heights
  • proficiency with Google Workspace (e.g. Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail), Slack, PDF software (e.g. Bluebeam) and AutoCAD
  • comfortable visiting and working on active construction sites
  • strong communication skills including writing and public speaking
  • self-reliant; comfortable taking risks and learning by observation and experience
  • desire to learn about building science and building envelope consulting

Staff Consultant

This is a mid-level position intended for someone with a few years of professional industry experience in building envelope consulting, engineering, or architecture. You’ll be working with the firm’s senior staff as well as taking on some project management responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • document conditions at project sites, including existing buildings and in-progress construction
  • attend project meetings with contractors, owners, owners’ representatives and other project stakeholders
  • prepare reports documenting field work
  • lead construction administration efforts on individual projects
  • perform building envelope testing and investigations
  • prepare construction documents including drawings and specifications
  • coordinate with junior staff and drafters to accomplish project goals

Preferred Qualifications

  • undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, architecture, or related field
  • professional registration (Architect, Engineer, RRC, RRO, REWC, etc.), or ability to achieve registration within 2 years
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in engineering, architecture or other building envelope-related professional field
  • ability to drive to job sites throughout New England, climb ladders and work at heights
  • proficiency with Google G Suite (e.g. Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail), PDF software (e.g. Bluebeam) and AutoCAD
  • comfortable visiting and working on active construction sites
  • strong communication skills including writing and public speaking
  • self-reliant; comfortable taking risks and learning by observation and experience
  • desire to learn about building science and building envelope consulting

Project Manager

A Project Manager at CopelandBEC is a senior staff position for an experienced professional. The overarching role of the Project Manager is to create and implement project work plans, as well as to teach and mentor junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • maintain frequent, clear client communication
  • identify staffing needs for projects
  • coordinate and lead the project team to accomplish project goals
  • ensure deliverables meet firm standards
  • monitor project financial performance and take action to address shortcomings
  • keep Principal in Charge apprised of project status and seek PIC feedback/guidance when appropriate
  • work with Administrative Assistant to prepare project proposals
  • review and approve subconsultant/contractor invoices
  • review draft project invoices
  • pursue active involvement in industry groups

Preferred Qualifications

  • undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, architecture, or related field
  • professional registration (Architect, Engineer, RRC, RRO, REWC, etc.)
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in engineering, architecture or other building envelope-related professional field
  • strong technical understanding of building science fundamentals and building envelope construction practices
  • familiarity with building codes and industry standards relevant to building envelope construction
  • ability to drive to job sites throughout New England, climb ladders and work at heights
  • proficiency with Google G Suite (e.g. Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail) and PDF software (e.g. Bluebeam)
  • comfortable visiting and working on active construction sites
  • strong communication skills including writing and public speaking
  • self-reliant; comfortable taking risks and learning by observation and experience
  • basic understanding of professional services business operation
  • desire to teach and mentor
